How We Work

The Basics

At Cardinal and Straw we strive to make your invitation design process as simple as possible. Our designers will work with you closely to ensure that your order is perfect. Please keep in mind that it takes time to make your invitation suite perfect. While we make every effort to meet the design and print turnaround times (listed below) we recommend allowing additional time - especially during our peak wedding season (March - August). We recommend ordering letterpress invitations 6-8 weeks before you would like to mail them. We recommend ordering thermograph and flat invitations 4-6 weeks before you would like to mail them. While we regularly work on shorter timelines (sometimes much shorter!) allowing the extra time lets us provide the attention to your suite that it deserves. Here are a few additional details on the process:

Orders

For orders based on existing designs you have the option to change any of the following items: printing method, paper type, paper color, and ink color. For an additional fee, you can also choose to add items such as inner envelopes, envelope liners, corner rounding, etc... Font types, motifs, monogram style, and general layout are not changeable as part of a standard order. Additional customization of our existing designs is possible at an extra charge. And if you love our work but don't see an invitation that meets your needs please contact us to discuss creating your perfect custom invitation!

Proofs

For orders based on existing designs, Cardinal and Straw will provide a first round of PDF proofs via email within 3-4 business days. Customers ordering a custom invitation will receive an initial proof within 5-7 business days. Cardinal and Straw will then provide two (2) additional rounds of revised pdf proofs to the Customer. Additional rounds of proofs can be expected within 2 business days of changes being emailed to Cardinal and Straw. Additional proofs will be charged a fee of $30.00 per proof. In order to minimize the number of rounds of proofs, please review your initial proof closely and make as many corrections/changes as possible.

Mock Ups

Cardinal and Straw will provide a digitally printed mock up of your invitation suite at a charge of $15.00. The mock up will be printed on the same paper as your invitation, but will not be printed using an offset press or letterpress. Therefore, ink colors on the digital proof will not be an exact representation of your final order if you ordered an offset/thermograph or letterpress invitation. Your mock up will not include the envelopes.

Errors and Reprints

Customer agrees that if a typographical error is discovered; a change in wedding details occurs (e.g. time or location of wedding ceremony); or if the Customer changes their mind regarding any aspect of the invitations (e.g. paper choice, ink color, font choice, etc.) AFTER Printer has been given approval to print, it is the responsibility of the Customer to pay for reprinting charges. Cardinal and Straw will work with the Customer as best they can to reprint invitations in a timely manner. If a customer error is detected after printing has occurred and the Customer wishes for the order to be reprinted, Cardinal and Straw will reprint the Customer’s wedding invitations at 50% of the original invitation cost. If an error is made due to a mistake made by Cardinal and Straw (e.g. print the incorrect design, print on an incorrect paper, print in an incorrect ink color etc.), Cardinal and Straw will be responsible for reprinting the Customer’s invitations at no cost to the Customer.  Please find more information about cancellations and returns at our policy page here.
