Since Save the Dates have not always been a traditional part of the wedding planning process, the rules and etiquette are not set in stone. Some trends for the New Year…

During the design process, it is important not to forget etiquette. Make sure that your design really sets the tone for your wedding. You want it to be memorable, yet not over the top. There are also many questions up in the air about what to include, who to send them to, and when to send them out. Feel free to ask us about your concerns!

 A few things to remember…

It is common courtesy that a Save the Date should be sent out about 4-6 months prior to wedding date. If you are choosing to do a destination wedding, don’t worry! Just make sure to give your guests a little more time to plan by sending them out up to 8 months in advance.

Also, unlike the formal invitation that follows, where you write out the date, (i.e. “on saturday, the fifth day of june…”) it is completely acceptable to simply put June 5, 2012 or 06.05.12.

When it comes to Save the Dates, most couples wish to keep it simple. You may not have all the formal details figured out yet, so just include the basics when choosing your words! For example, make sure you include both names of the couple, the date of the wedding, and you may choose to include the location if you wish. Some couples also prefer to include a short phrase like “Formal Invitation to Follow,” as a friendly reminder that more details are coming. A good alternative to a jam-packed Save the Date is to include your wedding website at the bottom where your guests can find all your information and updates.
