A "feel" for Letterpress Printing…

Written by Kaitlin Marshall

At the Diamond Rings and Pretty Things Bridal Show at Embassy Suites here in Lexington on January 15th, we had several couples inquiring about our Letterpress invitations. Because it is one of the oldest methods of printing, we were pleasantly surprised and very excited to answer any questions the brides had about it!

Some of you may have heard of the term, Letterpress, but have no idea what it actually is. If you have been browsing online, it may be hard to fully appreciate the beauty of Letterpress printing just from a picture. The unique “feel” of this printing method is always an attention-grabber for brides that stop in our office and see our invitation samples in person.

Like I said, Letterpress is one of the oldest methods of printing, traditionally using wood or lead type to physically press ink into paper one sheet at a time.  While we now use photopolymer plates to create the impression, the results are the same – a beautiful, deep impression that is exquisite both to view and to touch.  Letterpress printing is a craft requiring a skilled press operator and, of course, lots of patience!  Each piece has its own distinctive character. It truly is a remarkable way to make your wedding invitation suite unforgettable! See some of our samples below…

“Grande Damask”
“Duet”
“Honeybee”

Recently we had a bride stop in for an appointment, and we are so excited about the outcome that we have already created an inspiration board for the invitation suite! Here’s what Emily had to say about it …

I was beyond excited to meet Lindsey this week and to discuss her upcoming June wedding! Lindsey’s wedding palette combines gold, champagne and shades of coral – soooo lovely! And Lindsey? Classic, elegant, traditional and absolutely darling. She is hoping peonies bloom late this season and I am keeping my fingers crossed for her! The wedding cake will be created by none other than our fabulous Martine Holzman and will mimic the lace finish on Lindsey’s gown. Spindletop Hall will be graced in gold for her wedding as will the letterpress wedding invitations we are designing for her!” – Emily

Stay posted to see the final invitation design of this beautiful inspiration board! Until then, stop in and see for yourself the beauty and excellence that our Letterpress Printing has to offer!
